The Year My Health (And Confidence) Completely Broke – My Class 10 Board Exam Story
Hey friends,
Everyone says that Class 10 is extremely important because it has board exams, and the certificate is supposed to be useful throughout life.
Well, maybe a little bit — but definitely not as much as people hype it up to be.
I had made up my mind that I would study really well from the beginning of the year. But in June, I was hit with jaundice.
My health went downhill completely. I had no energy in my body, and even my memory became weak. I couldn’t focus or retain anything.
Just as I started to recover a little, in September I got dengue.
It was a terrible phase — I had 104-degree fever, and my body became very weak again.
Because of all this, I missed a lot of studies.
I started feeling sad because I was missing tests, falling behind, and obviously, my marks weren’t coming either.
Then in December, I got chickenpox.
Yes — in one single board exam year, I went through jaundice, dengue, and chickenpox.
Honestly, I felt like my parents weren’t taking my health seriously.
They even sent me to school before I had fully recovered from chickenpox.
Because of that, one of my friends also caught it from me.
That wasn’t right at all. I found my parents to be extremely irresponsible during that time.
Then came the board exam preparations.
I needed to get a white shirt for the exams, but since I was quite overweight, I couldn’t find a readymade one in my size.
So I went with my father to a tailor to get it stitched.
While we were at the shop, I accidentally knocked over a suit.
The tailor casually said, "Lose some weight, bro. This is my shop, so it’s okay. If it were someone else’s shop, they would have charged you for dry cleaning."
That comment stung — and it stung even more when my father took it personally.
He got offended, came home, and shouted at me aggressively about my weight.
He humiliated me so badly, I broke down that day.
I cried a lot.
From that day on, I started hating my father.
I didn’t talk to him for the next 2–3 months.
Then the board exams arrived.
I studied as much as I could, did my best despite everything, but I could only score 78.4%.
Since my marks were lower than expected, it deeply affected my self-confidence.
That entire year broke something inside me.
And even today, whenever someone talks about how important 10th board exams are — I don’t think of marks or certificates.
I just remember the pain.
