I Also Received Nagarro's Brightest Mind Award, and My Onsite Opportunity Was Almost Finalized
Hello friends,
Because my performance was excellent, my director recommended me for the Brightest Mind Award, and I received it.
I was extremely happy when I received that award. Around the same time, my engagement had taken place, so I shared the award photo with my fiancée.
She was also very happy with my success.
Then, around June/July, people from my project were scheduled to go onsite, and my name was included in that list.
I even had my passport photos clicked and submitted all my documents for the onsite process.
But then my name was dropped, and other team members—who were more senior than me—were sent onsite instead.
I felt really bad, but by that time, I had matured a little, so I didn’t fight over it.
Instead, I started giving interviews elsewhere, and I received a ₹13 LPA CTC offer from a product-based company—Airtel Payments Bank.
At that time, interviews weren’t conducted online. They were offline. I took a day off from work and went to Airtel’s office for the interviews. The interviews were tough, especially because they asked some solid DSA (Data Structures and Algorithms) questions, but I impressed them with my logical skills.
Airtel gave me a great offer, and I was ready to resign.
When I told my manager that I was planning to switch jobs, he was shocked.
He was actually a very good manager—intelligent and smart—and he advised me, “In just a few months, you’ll be getting another appraisal here. Don’t leave, because eventually, your salary will plateau elsewhere too.”
He told me to continue in the company where I’d been working since the beginning.
I told him, “Okay then, give me ₹15 LPA CTC, and I’ll stay.”
He replied, “It doesn’t work like that.”
I said, “You’ve seen my work, and you know that my output is double that of others. If another company can offer me ₹13 LPA without even seeing my work, then surely you can offer me ₹15 LPA after seeing it.”
He said, “Talk to the director.”
When I spoke to the director, he said, “At most, I can revise your CTC to ₹11.5 LPA, and that too in November. So if you want to stay, fine. Otherwise, resign.”
He added, “I was planning to send you onsite too, but there are seniors on the team. If I sent you before them, it would’ve hurt my relationship with them.”
In my mind, I thought, You focus on your relationships and politics—I'm heading out to a product-based company.
So I resigned and joined Airtel.
The Airtel story—coming in the next post.
