Competed Head-to-Head with an IIT Guy at Nagarro—and Won!
Hello friends,
I got my first Java project at Nagarro purely by chance.
My training was in .NET, but I already knew Java, so I accepted the project.
That day, I didn’t go alone to meet the director. There was also a guy from IIT with me.
He had gotten into IIT through the disability quota, so he wasn't the top IIT engineer—but still, the director noted his name in the diary, mentioning that he was from IIT.
Maybe it makes them feel proud to mention it to clients. And perhaps it makes getting projects easier for him.
That very day, I decided I would complete and showcase my POC (proof of concept) project before him—and do it better.
I chose backend tech, which involved coding in Java and Spring Boot.
He chose AngularJS, which is a frontend technology.
I finished my POC project in 3 days. It took him 7 days.
That’s when I gained confidence and realized: Just being from IIT doesn’t matter. What matters is the work you do in real life.
The one who works better and faster is the one who wins.
Sure, an IIT degree gives you better opportunities, but that doesn’t mean people who aren’t from IIT can’t achieve something in life.
Now that I’ve tasted a bit of success, I feel like I’ve officially entered the “anti-portfolio” of IIT.
An anti-portfolio means those people who weren’t accepted by IIT but still went on to become successful engineers.
